Can you touch a prayer? Can you pull it close and feel its comfort? You can if it’s part of a prayer quilt.

At TLC, we are one chapter of many in the Prayers & Squares interfaith outreach ministry. In times of illness, injury, or sorrow, we believe in God’s power to comfort, strengthen, and heal. Our prayer quilts have touched people of all ages since 1998. When we gather to make a prayer quilt, we use heavy thread to stitch through the quilt layers, leaving the ends free to be tied. We make each quilt as a gift of love and prayer.

During the church service, the recipient’s prayer quilt is dedicated. After church, we invite you to tie a knot as you say a silent prayer for the recipient. Each knot in the quilt represents a prayer. Children are welcome, too. We encourage everyone to participate.

Our motto is: “It’s not about the quilt; it’s about the prayers.”

Lutheran World Relief (LWR) Quilts
As part of our Prayers & Squares ministry, we make quilts for LWR. Every October, the quilts brighten up the church sanctuary for their dedication. Once the quilts are collected, they are shipped to LWR’s main distribution center. Our quilts have been sent to areas struck by earthquakes, such asHaiti, and other places affected by poverty, injustice and human suffering.

Please Join Us
Come and meet amazing women of all ages who are dedicated to this exciting and rewarding ministry! Please join us on the first and third Saturdays of the month, anytime from 9 a.m. to 12. You do not need to be an experienced quilter. If you have a willingness to help, while sharing in fun and fellowship, this is the place for you.  We are an active group and there is something for everyone: variety of outings, trips to fabric stores, quilting conferences and workshops, luncheons, and our annual “Mystery Quilt” sleepover!

If you know someone in special need of a prayer quilt…

As a TLC member, you may “sponsor” a quilt for another person in need of prayer.

  1. Talk to the quilt recipient about their prayer needs.
  2. Complete a request form, available in the church office.
  3. Contact the Prayers & Squares ministry to help you select a date and a quilt.
  4. Provide a photo of the recipient for display during the tying/praying process.
  5. Be present during and after the services for the quilt dedication and tying.
  6. Deliver the quilt to the recipient.
